Dear Parents, We are in the final weeks of our school year. It has truly been a pleasure to work with this fifth grade class. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to review the major topics we have covered this school year in order to prepare our students for the end-of-grade tests. I want our students to feel confident and prepared for the tests. I have included our study units and themes below that we will be covering this month. Again, I appreciate all the support this year, if you have any questions you may contact me by email: lsomech@nhcs.k12.nc.us or by phone: 910-790-2355 ext. 407. Sincerely, Mrs. Somech ****************************************************************************** Reading: We will finish reading the novel, The Word Eater and students are expected to participate in our literary discussions. Students are also using the basal reader and working on reading/grammar skills. Written Expression: Students are working on their writing portfolios which will be sent to middle school next year. We are finishing our informational reports and will begin our book reviews. Math: In math class, we will continue with our EOG review, using their workbooks. Science: We will begin our investigation of land and water with the help of our science kits. Social Studies: We will continue to study about our fifty states and our neighboring countries. Spelling: I continue to have students learn the definitions of words that are included in the stories we read together in class. They are also required to learn how to spell the words. **The weekly spelling list will be posted on my website under the link “Homework,” just in case anyone loses their spelling list throughout the week.
