Pumpkin Day was a great success. The children practiced many math and language arts activities. This group is practicing standard measurement to see how tall they are compared to the pumpkin. |

|
The children also practiced non- standard measurement. The boys are measuring the pumpkin with a string and then measuring the string with connecting cubes. |
I wonder how tall I am? |

After scooping all of the seeds out of the pumpkin, the children had to estimate, group the seeds into groups of 10 and then actually count all of the groups. This group is busy at work. |
The children predicted what would be in the pumpkin. After removing the top they dug all of the seeds and pulp out by hand. It feels pretty yucky! |

This group is busy digging out all of the pulp. They don't seem to mind how it feels. |
Our UNCW intern helped us out with this activity also. Wow! It took a long time to group and count all of those seeds. |

After all of the counting, measuring and describing, the children painted their pumpkins using geometric shapes. They were all very cute! Wow! I never knew we could learn so much with just a couple of pumpkins. |
