I hope everyone has a great weekend. The weather was very unpredictable but
we definitely need the rain. Thank you to everyone who helped with Teacher
Appreciation Week. The food, gifts, cards and kind words were very
appreciated.

I would like to thank everyone who joined us for the Airlie Garden’s field
trip. I was very nervous about the weather, but couldn’t have asked for a
better day. The children learned a tremendous amount of information. Airlie
Gardens is open free to New Hanover County residents every second Sunday of
each month. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of with your
entire family. Your child could be your own personal tour guide.

Topics of Study

In language arts, we will begin our literacy assessments. I will complete 5
tests with each child and report the results as soon as possible. For
spelling the children will continue to study the “bossy r” sound. Next week,
I will re-assess the recognition and spelling our of first grade core words.
During math we will begin a review of many topics in preparation for the 4th
nine weeks math assessment. Our science topic is solids and liquids. The
children are learning that everything has matter and matter can come in three
states: solids, liquids and gases.

Homework

Our homework this week will include spelling, baggie books and journals and
math subtraction facts. Due to our field trip, I did not check last week’s
subtraction facts. In fairness to the children, please continue to study the
same facts this week. Subtraction is more difficult so this will give them a
little extra study time.

Please contact me anytime with questions or concerns. I wish everyone a
wonderful week! Thank You, Lisa Traflet ltraflet@nhcs.net
