Problem Solving Team, or may be obtained from the prior school with
parent/guardian permission. A meeting will be sceduled to determine how to

What is the referral process for speech-language testing/services?

School age children must be referred to the speech-language pathologist by
the classroom teacher in order to be considered for services. A parent can
initiate a referral via the classroom teacher. Once a referral is made, a
speech team meeting will be held to develop an intervention plan which may
include a speech-language screening. The interventions must be inplace for a
least three weeks. The team will review the interventions/screening to
determine if a formal evaluation needs to be designed. From the date of the
design, there is 90 day time period in which the evaluation can be
completed. When the evaluation is completed, the team will meet to review
the evaluation and to determine if the student is eligible to receive speech-
language services, based on North Carolina state guidelines. The student
must also show evidence the the speech-language deficit has a negative impact
on academic, social, emotional, and/or vocational functioning within the
educational setting.
