In Math, fourth and fifth grade students have continued working on Logical Reasoning skills. They have also been working on Organized Lists, solving algebraic puzzles, and working on many problem-solving strategies through our Continental Math League Competition. Students have done well on the competition so far, and you can click on Continental Math League on my homepage to view our results so far. In Reading, students in fourth and fifth grades have been learning to pace themselves to complete work on time and edit their own work through contracted work. Both groups have experienced a Paideia Seminar, a discussion seminar about a piece of literature. Both groups have also helped out with the Salvation Army Food Drive. They have used books and the internet to research information, and they have learned to cite their sources. Each group has produced writing in the form of books and/or essays. Both groups are reading various materials, short stories, novels, and pieces from the internet. We are all working on vocabulary and analogies through the Word Masters competition. All of my groups, math and reading, are participating in the National Geographic Bee in January.
