2011-2012 school year
Greetings Mariners Team Parents!
This year will be an exciting year of learning for your seventh grade son/daughter. As their Reading teacher, I will be preparing the students for the Reading End-of-Grade Test and using various methods to ensure they are adequately equipped for the eighth grade. There will be novels we will read, discuss, and write about in class, novel projects assigned during the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd nine week periods, and Accelerated Reader standards the students are expected to reach throughout the school year. In advance, I would like to thank you for your support in assisting your child to put forth his/her best effort academically and behaviorally.
It has been a custom of mine over the years to provide a weekly progress report. Therefore, on Mondays of each week, I will write each student’s Reading average in their school planner. In addition, the planner can be used as a communication tool between the parent(s) and teachers. I also encourage you to view my web site to see any announcements, upcoming projects, homework assignments, etc. at www.teacherweb.com. By clicking on “Find Your Teacher” and following the given prompts, you may access by web page.
Class projects are ordinarily based on what we are read and/or wrote about in class (i.e., novels and short stories). Students will be given the project requirements and the due date approximately one month in advance. Sorry, but late projects will not be accepted.
Pine Forest Middle has the Accelerated Reader Program, which the students are required to utilize throughout the year. We will go to the media center at least twice a month for students to check out an AR book(s). For the Academically Gifted class, the minimum requirement is to take four (4) AR tests in a nine week period. All other classes have a minimum requirement of taking three (3) AR tests in a nine week period. For both classes, the AR books they choose to read and take a test on should be on a 3.0 reading level or above. The student’s goal should be to pass the AR tests. For the Academically Gifted class, I will take the top (4) highest AR test scores and for all other classes, I will take the top (3) highest AR test scores per nine week period.
Lastly, the categories and their weights whereby students will be graded are as follows:
Class work 10%
Homework 10%
Tests 30%
Quizzes 30%
Projects/AR Tests 20%
Again, I look forward to working with your child and appreciate your support in a team effort to promote him/her to the next level of education.
Yours truly,
Mrs. Blue
