Week Of November 30, 2009
Religion
In this first week of Advent, the children will make a simple classroom Advent Wreath using clippings from our Church Youth Tree Lot. We will recount salvation history with beautiful scripture each day and lovely ornaments we make to add to our classroom Jesse Tree. Our Jesse Tree lessons will continue up to our Christmas Holidays.
Math
We will review double digit subtraction in preparation for our test coming up on Thursday of this week. We will be working several word problems each day, as this is a particular weakness for our class. Please review your child's Math homework each night and ask them to correct it with you.
We have begun giving timed math sheets. They will come home in your child's homework folder each day. Use these strips to monitor your child's progress with memorizing basic addition facts. Here are some fun ways to continue practicing those facts!
Language Arts
Our reading selection this week is a non-fiction story of how children's play has changed throughout the years. We will continue to discuss Author's Purpose. For a detailed description of our phonics, grammar and vocabulary lessons, please click on the study guide link to the left.
Social Studies
We are off to see the Christian world as we study how different cultures celebrate Christmas. We will fill out passports and pack our bags for England, France, Belorusse, Ireland, and Germany this week. If you would like to help with a country, please email me, as I am still needing help with a few countries.
