May 2012: It truly is spring--the weather is much warmer and the days are longer. And, many of you have more activities after school. That is why it is very important that you write down your homework and plan time to get it done before or after you go off to play after school. Remember to take your time on all your work and review it before you turn it in. Ask yourself if your work looks neat, have you completely answered the problems, and have you really done your best. If you don't understand something ask for help before the assignment is due! March 2012: Hooray--you have finished the diocesan writing assessment--now put all that work you dedicated toward organizing your stories and writing with description toward another task. We will begin writing your personal myth. Even though the weather is nice some days don't forget to bring a jacket or a fleece--remember that we have lunch before 12:00 and it is sometimes cool in the back playground. Jan. 2012: Happy New Year and welcome back. We will be focusing on writing personal and imaginative essays. One way to help you improve is by reading books or magazines of your choice and reflecting on the descriptions the author paints through words and expressions and looking at the organization of the stories. Happy Writing! Dec. 2011 Dear Students, I hope that during this season of Advent that you are have the opportunity to slow down and trust in God's love. Look around you to experience all the beautiful things He has given us--the radiant sunsets, the sillouhette of bare trees against a winter sky, the sounds of birds flying south for the winter... Just for now appreciate these gifts and remember to thank God everyday. Another thing to thank God for is the love and care you receive from your parents. Show them how much you appreciate all they do for you by telling them, helping them out, and by doing your best in school. Classes are getting a little more difficult, aren't they? Multi-digit multiplication is a lot to keep up with and grammar is challenging too. Sometimes it is confusing to figure out the difference between a simple sentence, a compound sentence, and a complex sentence. When you feel like you are really struggling with your homework slow down and say a quiet prayer to God that He will help calm your spirit and allow your brain to retrieve all the information you know about the subject. Also, make a note on a piece of paper what identifying is difficult for you and then ask me to help explain it to you. Have a great Advent season! Sept. 2011 Dear Students and Parents, We have had a great beginning so far and I am so happy to have you in my class. I realize that coming upstairs to 4th grade is a big adjustment for many of you. You have to make sure you put all your homework assignments down in your planner and do your homework yourself! (Mom or Dad can certainly double check your work to make sure you have done it correctly). You will learn lots of interesting and helpful things this year. And you will take the Diocesan Writing Test, ride on a chartered bus to Raleigh, and go crabbing at Fort Fisher. Inbetween you will advance your understanding of mathematics, write magazine article reviews, study primary sourc materials, and lots more. So, hang on to your hats because we will have a lot of fun!
