What are the drop off/ pick up procedures?
Please do not drop off your child before 7:45 a.m. Children need
to be in the classroom by 8:05, and attendance will be taken at
8:10 a.m. Through September 5th you have the option of walking
your kindergartener to the classroom door. After September 5th,
please follow St. Mark's drop off procedure. It is common for
some children to shed a few tears during initial separation,
however, it is important for us to establish a sense of routine
and independence. Dismissal for kindergarteners without St. Mark
siblings is at 2:45 from the side door. For your child's safety,
the side door is locked until this time. For kindergarteners
with St. Mark siblings, you have the option to wait and pick your
kindergartener up in the appropriate dismissal line at 3:10.
Children attending the After School Program will be escorted to
the appropriate location. If there is a change in transportation,
we must have permission in writing, or call the school office in
an emergency. If you need to pick up your child early, please put
a note in your child's folder. The office will call the classroom
upon your arrival. We miss your child when they are out. Please
call the school office in the case of absence. In the event of an
illness, remember that the American Academy of Pediatrics
recommends that children be fever free for 24 hours before
returning to school.
When do parent/teacher conferences take place?
After the 1st and 3rd grading periods, a 15 minute conference
will be arranged to discuss your child's progress. Report cards
will be sent home after the 2nd and 4th grading periods. If any
questions/concerns take place during any other times throughout
the school year, appointments to conference with me can be made.
Please be aware that appointments will not
be made during school hours of operation.
What are communication folders?
A folder will be used for parent- teacher written communication.
Any assignments and school notifications from us will be sent in
this folder.Use the folder to return completed homework, sick
notes, questions/ .concerns, permission slips, babysitter pick up
notes etc.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S FOLDER EVERYDAY!!!!!!!
How is religion taught in the classroom?
School mass is held every Friday in the church at 8:30.
Kindergarten will attend each Mass. The school/church collects
canned foods for the hungry. These can be brought to the
classroom any day of the week. (Non-perishable and no glass
please). Thank you for your generosity and teaching
your children to help those in need. Our classroom religion
program, We Believe, will help the children to learn, celebrate,
share, and live our faith. Throughout the year we will hear about
many saints and holy people. Our curriculum is taught through
workbooks, songs, activities, and service projects.
What should I send for my child's snack?
Your child will enjoy a small, midmorning snack in the classroom.
Each child may enjoy ONE food item, and one small water or juice
box. Examples of appropriate kindergarten snacks: a banana,
Goldfish, raisins, pretzels,granola/ cereal bar
What is the role of the weekly star student?
Each week we will have a star student in the classroom. To make
it fair, the star student is chosen alphabetically by last name.
Your child's special week will include helping out with special
chores, being line leader. Most importantly, the purpose is to
learn more about the star student. You and your child can
decorate a poster that will hang outside our classroom door. More
details will be explained in a sheet that will be sent home on
the Friday before your child's special week.
What is a great way to purchase books through the school?
Book orders will be sent home periodically, giving you an
opportunity to build your child's library at home. Our classroom
earns points with successful book orders, which can be used to
buy books for the classroom's collection. St. Mark also hosts
book fairs in the fall and spring for families to purchase books.
Please take advantage of this opportunity; it helps support our
library funds.
