Free Athletic Physicals Offered
Free athletic physicals are being offered by the local physicians for the boys and girls who will be in grades 6-8 next years. Please remember that all athletes must have a physical each year in order to participate. For more information please see the two links listed below. When participating in this free physical please use the New Hanover County Form. Once the physical is completed they will send the completed form to me. Before the physical you must complete the front page of the form.
Boys Physicals will be given on May 24

Spring Sports Update

Baseball
The Lions baseball team completed their season with a record of 4-2. Congratulations on a great first season. The team defeated Myrtle Grove Christian School twice while splitting with Trask Middle School and Harrell's Christian Academy. Team members are Christopher Baker, Michael Boylan, Parker Dickens, Alex Ellsworth, Andrew Kerekes, Owen Mayberry, Ian McIntyre, Anthony Messina, Brandon Moody, Adam Pecoraro, Matthew Sweyer, and Robert Wilkerson. The team was coached by Michael Herschell and Preston Bull.

Lacrosse Club
Lacrosse completed their season on May 4. the team worked on skills building and fundamentals on Mondays at Landfall from 4-6 p.m. while Friday they practiced at the Soccer Plex. Coach Adam Ericson led the team of 12 middle school boys in a variety of drills designed to help them learn the fundamentals of the game. Team members are Jack Balland, Cole Beck, Christian Brayman, Cullum Crowley, Nick Eckert, Sean Ericson, Tim Groh, Drew Keely, Hunter Knab, Nick Manning, Michael Medley, and Andrew Schild.
T-Ball
Over 20 K-3 graders participated in practice sessions at Blair Elementary Field in preparation for tow Saturday morning games. Mrs. Frazelle helped prepare them for the next step with the help of parents. The games ended with freeze pops and water for all.
Boys Tennis
Boys tennis finished with a 5-3-1 record.
Team members were Daniel Antonelli, Tim Daley, Luke Durham, Kristian Perez, Thomas Pirkey, Justin Russell, Cohl Sudduth, and Grant Williams. The coach is Stephanie Stevens and the tennis program is run through the Greater Wilmington Tennis Association.
Running Club Grades 4-8
The Running Club is still practicing in preparation for a 5 K Run at Mayfair on May 19. Nearly 40 runners work out up to three days a week. Coaches Shelly Malloy, Kim Caparelli, Velvet Kleppinger, and Gabe Salinas are combining classroom instruction in nutrition with a running program for the athletes in grades 4-8.
Coed Soccer Coach Needed
St. Mark Catholic School is looking for a coed middle school soccer coach. The ten week season begins the first week of August and ends the second week of October. The candidate will have strong Christian principles, be a good role model, good people skills, able to work within the framework of a Catholic education, have knowledge and experience in teaching soccer fundamentals and teamwork to a coed team consisting of grades 6-8. The applicant must be willing to attend Safe Environment Training on child abuse and submit to a criminal background check. The practices will run for 1 ½ hours three to four days per week. 8th Grade Boys Basketball win League Championship
Congratulations to the middle school boys and girls who participated in basketball this winter. The season ended with the Boys Division 1 team winning the tournament championship of the Southeastern Middle School League by defeating Cape Fear Academy 37 to 36. The win is the first championship for a boys team in St. Mark history. Members of the team are Christopher Baker, Cole Beck, Luke Durham, Jake Farris, Andrew Kerekes, Jack Kiernan, Henry Kunz, Mitch Layton, Michael Medley, Adam Pecoraro, Andrew Sawyer, Robert Wilkerson. The team finished the season 12-2. They also tied Cape Fear for the regular season championship, then won the tournament championship by winning the rematch with Cape Fear. The team was coached by assistant principal, Dennis Fleck.

8th Grade Girls Basketball Runner up in League Championship
In addition, the girls Division 1 team were runner ups in the tournament championship to Harrels Christian. This is the third year in a row the girls' teams have been in the championship game. Team members were Alexandria Erling, Alli Gentry, Haley Smithwick, Smithwick, Caroline Cahill, Savanna Kirchoff, Mary Grace Kiernan, Nora Quinn, Kara Porter, Grayson Arthurs. The team was coached by faculty member, John Aultman.
The Division 2 Girls team finished 3rd in the league and lost in the opening round of the tournament to Team members were Anna Cameron, Vivien White, Olivia Lettsome, Anna Sawyer, Samantha Meisell, The team was coached by parishioner Dick Husemann.
The Division 2 boys team won their opening round of the tournament before losing to eventual runner up St. Mary. Team members were Finn McGrady, Evan Gray, Anthony Messina, Cameron Wright, Cohl Sudduth, Cullum Crowley, Foster Willis, Christian Brayman, Luke Chauvin, Price Shakar, Dylan Lippe. The team was coached by Michael Herschell.
Thanks to all the parents for their support of the teams during the season. They all chipped in by keeping score, running the clock, collecting money at the gate, and of course getting their children to and from practice and games. We look forward to next year when we play games in our home gym for the first time.
New Gym
Finally, construction continues on the new gym and classroom addition. Work continues on the interior of the building with the scheduled completion date still the end of July. Next year we open our new gym by hosting the Southeastern Middle School Championship Tournament with the semifinals on February 7 and the finals on February 9.
