WEEK of August 25-29, 2008
The sixth grade religion classes will examine Session 1, Unit 1, "The Bible,
God's Story"this week. Students will learn about the life of Saint Jerome
and the significance of his work in translating the Bible from the original
Hebrew and Greek texts into Latin, the common language of the time. Students
will explore the spiritual and artistic importance of illuminated
manuscripts and will try their hand at illuminating a scripture passage.
There will be a quiz on pages 1-11 on Friday, August 29th.
The eighth grade religion classes will continue to engage in an exploration
of who Jesus is based upon His words and actions.Through critical
examination of Bible texts, students will derive lists describing how Jesus
was "good" and then write a "Jesus definition" of what it means to be "good".
This will help students to develop an authentic understanding of
Jesus based on His character. Ultimately, these explorations are intended to
help students develop a deeper relationship with Jesus, God the Father, and
the Holy Spirit, such that these relationships become the pivotal force in
their lives.Students will also explore how the parables of Jesus answer the
questions, "Who is God?" and "What is life like in God's Kingdom?" There
WILL NOT be a quiz for the eighth grade classes this week.
