Week of Nov. 16, 2009
*We have a busy week full of finishing our Rocks and Minerals Lab, Social
Studies Brochures, preparing for and taking Social Studies and Science tests,
a visit from our school counselor, Pam Seymour, and Open House Wed. morning!
* Our Green Corn Ceremony was fun! Thanks so much to August's, Nick's, and
Thorin's parents for sending in cornbread, pumpkin pie, and popcorn for our
feast. The children really enjoyed them!
I will be out Monday and Tuesday of next week, so any tests missed will have
to be made up after Thanksgiving break. I hope everyone has a great
Thanksgiving as we remember to give thanks to a good and gracious God for all
of our blessings. Safe travels to those who will be on the road or in the air.
*Book Fair takes place this week. The children will browse during
their Library time on Monday.
*Please remember that there are no more Geography Bee practices on Tuesday
and Wednesday. We'll be starting the classroom competitions soon.
*The poem/book report schedule was passed out at the August Open House.
It is also posted on the Homework section of these classroom pages. Your
child received the requirements and rubric for NOVEMBER'S HISTORICAL
FICTION Book Report last week.
If your child has be absent, please remember to send in a note explaining
your child's absence and the dates involved. Also, if you are planning to be
out of town, all makeup work is provided after your child returns, not before
the trip. Please refer to the Parent/student Handbook.
If your child has a birthday and you would like to bring in cupcakes or
treats, we allow store-bought treats as per the handbook. Our snack time is
around 10:00 a.m.
Parents, If your child struggles with
math facts, check out this: http://www.flashmaster.com/
Please read at least 30 minutes a day to keep your reading skills sharp.
Everything improves with practice!
Parent-student book club is once a month. We usually meet at 2:15
p.m. the last Thursday of each Month, but we will meet the first Thursday of
December for November's meeting because of Thanksgiving. If you and your
parent want to participate, the November book choice in is
Sign of the Beaver. I have several copies you may borrow (one per family,
please).
Lastly, don't forget to write your name (first and last) in permanent marker
on the tags of all your uniform clothing, and on all the supplies you are
buying for school. We want to be able to return your things to you if you
forget or lose them. Thanks for cooperating with this important request!
