Week of Dec. 14, 2009
* I hope everyone has a Merry, Holy Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
Enjoy good food, family and friends as we celebrate the birth of our Savior.
**Third Week of Advent: I heard this the other day: A survivor of the Rwanda
massacres says she prays the Rosary often, but also gives up one thing each
day - a daily self-denial such as no sweets that day, or TV, or music, or
coffee, and offers it up.
** We need help with the following items for the 4B Christmas
party on Thursday, 12/17 from 9 – 10:30 am.
Adult helpers – at least three
Happy Birthday Jesus cake (a ¼ sheet cake will probably be enough)
Plates, napkins, forks
Christmas colored ink pads (red, green, gold, silver, black)
for stamping on cards for our service men and women.
Thanks so much!
***FRIDAY IS A HALF DAY.
** A REMINDER: Jacob's mother has asked if our class would be interested in
donating used clothing to benefit poor children in Gambia. I agreed that
it would be a wonderful project for our class, especially in the Christmas
spirit of giving and in our learning about other countries for our in-
class book reports. If you've just switched to winter clothes in your
closets and drawers, perhaps the clothes the children have outgrown could
be sent in as donations. Of course this is strictly a voluntary project.
God bless you in
advance for your generosity. PLEASE SEE THE SPECIAL EVENTS SECTION OF MY
WEB PAGES FOR MORE INFORMATION. tHANKS TO THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY SENT IN
SOME ITEMS.
*The poem/book report schedule was passed out at the August Open House.
It is also posted on the Homework section of these classroom pages. Different
Cultures Book Report is being done in class. Students will be writing 15
important facts about their country to share with the class.
*Our speaker from Gambia will fit nicely with both the book report genre and
our Religion works of mercy, as well as the holiday spirit of giving.
If your child has be absent, please remember to send in a note explaining
your child's absence and the dates involved. Also, if you are planning to
be
out of town, all makeup work is provided after your child returns, not
before
the trip. Please refer to the Parent/student Handbook.
If your child has a birthday and you would like to bring in cupcakes or
treats, we allow store-bought treats as per the handbook. Our snack time is
around 10:00 a.m.
Parents, If your child struggles with
math facts, check out this: http://www.flashmaster.com/
Please read at least 30 minutes a day to keep your reading skills sharp.
Everything improves with practice!
Parent-student book club is once a month. We usually meet at 2:15
p.m. the last Thursday of each Month, but we will meet the first Thursday of
December for November's meeting because of Thanksgiving. If you and your
parent want to participate, the November book choice in is
Sign of the Beaver. I have several copies you may borrow (one per family,
please).
Lastly, don't forget to write your name (first and last) in permanent marker
on the tags of all your uniform clothing, and on all the supplies you are
buying for school. We want to be able to return your things to you if you
forget or lose them. Thanks for cooperating with this important request!
