Week of Jan. 4, 2010
* I hope everyone enjoyed family, fun, and a break from the routine during
the holidays!
* Thanks to the parents of Justin, Evan L, Adam B., Thorin, and Mary for
helping with the Christmas party, and anyone who sent in food or supplies.
The children had a great time.
* Thanks, too, to those who sent in clothes, etc. for the families in
Gambia. Due to a death in the family, our speaker had to delay her talk, but
we are rescheduling so the children can learn more about the country their
donations went to.
*Reminders: -Poem for January is due Jan. 13th, and the collage on the
-Fantasy Book is due Jan. 29th. I will send the paper and rubric
home this week.
-January is cold! Students must wear a coat and other
appropriate warm clothing. Recess is 20 minutes long, and P.E.
may also be outside. Please help us help your child stay well.
* The RAC work has begun! The raised part of Raphael Hall was leveled and
recemented, so students and parents will have to access Raphael Hall by the
Falls of Neuse doors for most of this week until the cement is fully dry.
*The poem/book report schedule was passed out at the August Open House.
It is also posted on the Homework section of these classroom pages. Different
Cultures Book Report is being done in class. Students will be writing 15
important facts about their country to share with the class.
*Our speaker from Gambia will fit nicely with both the book report genre and
our Religion works of mercy, as well as the holiday spirit of giving.
If your child has be absent, please remember to send in a note explaining
your child's absence and the dates involved. Also, if you are planning to
be
out of town, all makeup work is provided after your child returns, not
before
the trip. Please refer to the Parent/student Handbook.
If your child has a birthday and you would like to bring in cupcakes or
treats, we allow store-bought treats as per the handbook. Our snack time is
around 10:00 a.m.
Parents, If your child struggles with
math facts, check out this: http://www.flashmaster.com/
Please read at least 30 minutes a day to keep your reading skills sharp.
Everything improves with practice!
Parent-student book club is once a month. We usually meet at 2:15
p.m. the last Thursday of each Month, but we will meet the first Thursday of
December for November's meeting because of Thanksgiving. If you and your
parent want to participate, the November book choice in is
Sign of the Beaver. I have several copies you may borrow (one per family,
please).
Lastly, don't forget to write your name (first and last) in permanent marker
on the tags of all your uniform clothing, and on all the supplies you are
buying for school. We want to be able to return your things to you if you
forget or lose them. Thanks for cooperating with this important request!
