How do I see my counselor?

Just fill out a self referral form, located in all classrooms. Then put it
in my mailbox. I'll set up an appointment and send you a pass. Easy!

Suppose I get a pass and I didn't ask to see you?

Please come anyway at the designated time! Your parent or teacher may have
asked me to talk with you or I may have some information about your schedule
or a program.

How do I get to be an ambassador ?

You are required to fill out an application and have two teacher
recommendations. Then, Mr. Cole and I look at your attendance, grades,
behavior and attitude. Unfortunately, we cannot select everyone who applies.

I need school supplies. Can you help me?

We have lots of school supplies. It is very important that you are prepared
for class, so please come see me. I'll give you whatever you need.

I have a problem that I cannot tell anyone. Will you call my mom?

Everything you tell me is confidential. If we decide together that your
parent needs to help to solve the problem, then we will call together. I
will not tell your teacher, friend, brother, cousin or anyone if you do not
want me to.

There is one big exception to this rule. IF you are in danger of hurting
yourself or if someone is hurting you, I HAVE to tell. It is the law and it
is my job. This almost never happens. Thank goodness.

Do you talk with students about girlfriend problems?

Yes, all the time. Middle school is a time when students start thinking
about boyfriends and girlfriends.

I was in a group at my old school. Do you have groups like that?

Probably. I offer lots of groups for students. Some of them include anger
management, dealing with grief and loss when someone close to you dies,
making and keeping friends and more. Come see me if you would like to be in
a group, I will also be asking you if you would like to be in a group, based
on the form that you filled out when I visited your classrooms at the first
of the year.

I am being picked on by this boy. I don't want to be a snitch.

No one wants to be a snitch. However, we cannot have bullying at our
school.Tell me in confidence. Also, if he is picking on you, he is probably
picking on other students too. It takes courage to tell a teacher or
administrator, but please do. You are not alone. I am going to have a whole
page later on my website about bullying.
