Parents: Thank you for checking TeacherWeb! If your child is absent for a day or two, please do not e-mail us. We care deeply about your children's health, but with all of the recent illnesses, our mailboxes are flooding. If your child is absent for 3 or more days, please then contact Student Services, who will then gather work from us. Thanks for all you do at home to support learning!

Monday: #79: Identify 5 W's & H for each article on #78 (who is the article about, what do they do, when does the action occur, where does the action mostly happen, why do the people do what they do, and how does the event end?). Do you owe late vocabulary? ** 2nd pd: There's been a scheduling error; we will not be going to the library tomorrow after all.

Students in 3rd & 4th pds: Please take your maps home this week.

Have you heard about Family Fun Night?

Join us this Thursday, 6:30 - 9:00, for the Silver Wolves Family Fun Night!

Bring your own picnic dinner (We'll eat indoors!) then we will move into the theater to watch Akeelah and the Bee on the big screen. This is a family event so bring everyone!

Tuesday: 1) Use #80 & 81 to write summaries of both articles (#82). Each student received newspaper articles about two sports: curling & alligator wrestling or bouldering & competetive eating. Use #81 to take notes on the articles. Write a 6-10 sentence summary of each article; that's TOC #82. 2) Review vocab & QOW for Fri. quiz. A reminder to pds. 2, 5, & 6: This quiz will be fill-in-the-blank (but not the same sentences as the vocab list). Know how to spell the words and be able to use them in sentences; don't count on having a word bank!

Wednesday: No School ~ Veterans' Day

Thursday: 1) #83 (front only): Does each sport match your preferences? Across the top, name the 5 sports you've read about this week (on #78 & #80) plus 2 more of your own. Down the left side, circle your preferences (Do you prefer sports you play alone, with a partner, or on a team? Do you prefer sports that are healthy and good exercise or aren't necessarily healthy and good exercise?) If a sport matches your preference, put a check in the corresponding box. If a sport doesn't match your preference, leave the box empty. 2) Review vocabulary & QOW. 3) Several students also need to write their "sports" summaries (#82). These come from the newspaper articles you read (#80) and the notes you took in class on Tuesday (#81).

Family Fun Night is tonight! Bring your dinner to the cafeteria at 6:30 then join us in the theater for Akeelah and the Bee at 7:00.

Friday, pds. 2, 5, & 6:  1) #86, plus QOW and sentences     2) Rewrite one summary following #81?  Mr. T returned #82 ("Sport" Summary) in case you'd like to rewrite it, using your notes (#81).  It should follow the example written below.    3) Library on Tuesday!

Friday, pds. 3 & 4:   1) #86, plus QOW and sentences     2) Rewrite one summary following #81?   Mr. T returned #82 ("Sport" Summary) in case you'd like to rewrite it, using your notes (#81).  It should follow the example written below.     3) Library on Tuesday!

Sample Sport Summary:   Ping Pong (or table tennis) is a popular sport that began as a miniaturized version of tennis.  To be good at it, you must learn to serve and hit a small plastic ball back and forth using small round paddles.  Your goal is to hit the ball onto your opponent's side of the table in such a way that they cannot return it.  This sport has many benefits, including improving your hand-eye coordination and being good aerobic exercise.  However it has also been known to cause carpal tunnel syndrome.  Wang Hao, the current world table tennis champion, says, "Table tennis is the perfect sport!  Everyone should play!"
