REFER TO YOUR CHILDS AGENDA FOR A LIST OF THEIR WORDS EACH WEEK!
Choices for Spelling Homework
3rd Grade
Below are some choices you can use to practice your childs spelling
words at home. All required spelling practice will be done in
school.
KEEP THIS LIST EITHER IN YOUR HOMEWORK FOLDER OR AT YOUR HOUSE.
In third grade spelling is developmentally based. At the beginning
of the year the children were assessed and placed into groups based
on those assessments. On Mondays and Fridays all children in 3rd
grade switch classes based on their groups. This is one way is
which we are differentiating for the students in Third Grade.
On Monday they learn their words for the week, the rules for the word
lists, and how to sort them. On Friday they take a test on their
spelling words. On that test, they will have to know how to spell
the words and how to sort them. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday,
the children complete spelling activities in their regular classroom
based on these spelling lists. You can find an sample spelling list
and a sort on the back of this sheet.
Students will not be asked to turn in spelling homework. However,
there are several activities you can participate in at home to help
them get ready for their Friday spelling test. The following are a
few examples of things that could be done at home (nothing will be
turned in):
1) Make Flash Cards to study your words
2) Put your words in ABC order
3) Make word triangles for each of your words
4) Look up 10 of the words in the dictionary, write down the
