December 7th, 2009
Dear Parents and Students,
Students will be working on their biography research projects on famous
Americans this week to finish up and present to the class. Students have
been given and will be given time to type of their report and to create their
art portion of the project. Projects will begin to present these to their
classmates on Thursday, December 10th. Students will receive a reading/lang.
arts test grade for this project.
December 9th we will be traveling to Tryon Palace. We also have
scheduled a trip to sing at a nursing home and eat lunch at Pizza Inn with
our reading buddies from Mrs. Long's class. The cost for students is $5.00.
This permission slip/info will be coming home Monday, December 7th and is due
by Friday, December 11th. Any parent who wishes to chaperone and help a
group of students at Pizza Inn, please let me know~approved chaperones,
please.
During math this week, we will continue to work on multiplication skills
and things associated with multiplication. We also have been working more on
problem solving during class time. Students need to begin to study
multiplication facts for 5-10 minutes nightly, either with flash cards or
with games. Please help them to remember to spend time nightly on this.
Students who master the facts will have an easier time with the problem
solving we will be doing the rest of the year in preparation for the testing
at the end of the year.
FYI, Academic progress reports come home on Monday, December 7th, as
well. These were scheduled to come home last Wednesday, but I did not have
them completed at that time. I apologize for any inconvenience. If you have
any questions/concerns or would like to schedule a conference, please contact
me at the school.
**IMPORTANT: Please check spelling journals and math workbooks periodically
to ensure your child is meeting success in these areas, as well. Some
students are not performing well in these two areas of homework.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Sherry Simmons
