We've been using Lexiles at White Oak for about three years. Many of our books in the library have a Lexile level. Students are encouraged to progress as readers using their individual assigned reading goals and their Lexile levels. <SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Reading goals are set quarterly to encourage students to read at a level that is challenging, but not too difficult. </SPAN><BR> <BR> With Lexiles, reading measurement matches students to appropriately challenging reading materials. How it works: Lexiles measure both reader ability and text difficulty on the same scale. This is called the Lexile scale. At the beginning of the school year and each quarter our students will take a test called an SRI, short for Scholastic Reading Inventory. This computer assessment gives students a Lexile level. The goal is to increase or show growth each quarter.
