Wildwood's Counseling Connection |
Meet the CounselorsMEET MRS. WALLACE: I am the K-2nd Grade Counselor. I am originally from Connecticut where I received my B.S. in psychology and a B.A. in elementary education. I taught 2nd and 3rd grade for 5 years. Two of those years were spent teaching a multi-age classroom in magnet school in Connecticut. Three years were spent teaching second grade at Hunter Elementary in southeast Raleigh. In 2003 I earned my Master of Education degree with a specialization in School Counseling from North Carolina State University. I enjoy being a counselor. I believe that every child can be successful given the right amount of support, positive role models, exposure to different learning experiences and encouragement. I practice a comprehensive developmental model. I feel my job is to be an advocate for your children and provide a safe and welcoming school environment. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my three children and my husband. I also enjoy reading and walking. Please feel free to recommend any good books! I look forward to continued communication with parents. Please feel free to contact me by email at nwallace@wcpss.net or by phone at 713-0612 MEET MRS. MCDONALD:Hello! I have been at Wildwood Forest since 2001. I am the 3rd - 5th grade Counselor for this year. I have a total of twelve years experience as a School Counselor. Previously I worked in Granville County Schools for three years, and worked for Oswego BOCES in Mexico, NY as a Special Education Counselor for ages 4 to 18. I also worked as an Alternative High School Counselor. I received my Master of Education degree with a specialization in School Counseling from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. I am now a National Board Certified School Counselor. In my free time, I love to see movies and enjoy trips to the beach. Many children have emotional needs that impact their ability to learn. My counseling program is a comprehensive developmental counseling model meant to reach as many children as possible. I try to make my counseling room a welcoming and comfortable place for students to be. I feel my counseling style of showing warmth, genuineness, sensitivity and active listening is helpful to students as they have a place to go where they can be heard and will be accepted for who they are. My goal is to help students to develop the necessary skills they need to be more successful in the school setting. The more ownership and self-confidence a student has about school, the more likely they are to achieve to their highest potential. PHILOSOPHY The following are the beliefs of the Wildwood Forest Counseling program:
MISSION The mission of the Wildwood Forest School Counseling program is to provide a supportive learning environment for all students. Programs are comprehensive, developmental and preventative in nature. School Counselors are partners in education who help guide all students to achieve academic, social and personal success. School Counselors work to help students become lifelong learners and responsible citizens for our global community. |
