Classroom Guidance is an integrative way to reach the highest number of students. We visit each classroom about once a month and have lessons on a variety of topics. Topics include: dealing with teasing, character education, career development, friendship skills, problem solving and self-esteem. Counselors work with Classroom Teachers to determine the needs of the class and can change topics accordingly.
These programs are going to be used this year:
Froggy and Friends in Kindergarten and 1st grade which addressed self-esteem, bullying and conflict resolution
Second Step is a violence prevention program that teaches impulse control, anger control, and problem solving. All K-2 teachers teach this program.
Steps to Respect is a program utilized by 3-5th grade. Skills taught include respect, friendship, and bullying. Skill lessons and integrated literature lessons are used to help teach these important skills.
