Carolina Standard Course of Study
This web page serves as a curriculum
terminal from which you can travel to specific goals and objectives based
on discipline and grade level. This service provides a convenient way for
teachers, administrators, and parents to verify the instructional
objectives of the Standard Course of Study at a given grade and subject
area. You may also wish to view the NC Course of Study Graduation
Requirements which go into effect
for 9th graders entering for the first time in 2000-01.

828k) This guiding document for elementary school focuses on the
importance and value of delivering a well-rounded education which
includes all areas of the Standard Course of Study.
- Middle School Level
Surveys
Middle School Teachers of all areas and School-Based
Administrators are asked to complete the following surveys. This
information will be used as the Middle School Balanced Curriculum
Committee develops a guiding document that will assist schools with
implementing a balanced curriculum. It is anticipated that this document
will be available for the 2005-2006 school year.
Operating
Procedures Manual Enrollment of High School Intellectually Gifted and
Mature Students in Community (pdf, 384k) These procedures have
been prepared cooperatively by the North Carolina Community College System
(NCCCS) and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to
facilitate effective planning for cooperative programs between community
colleges and high schools in North Carolina. These procedures replace
previous procedures for Huskins, concurrent enrollment, and intellectually
gifted students programs. This document is effective with the planning
cycle for cooperative programs between community colleges and high schools
for the 2004-2005 high school and college academic year.

Best Chance 2004 – Middle Grades Task Force Report (pdf,
584k) The Middle School Task Force Report includes data and research
collected over a two-year period regarding the status of middle level
education in our state. The Task Force provides the first comprehensive
look at middle grade education since the 1989 publication of Last Best
Chance. This document includes recoomendations endorsed by the State Board
of Education.
