High School Website Evaluation-CARS Checklist

CREDIBILITY (Goal: A source that is created by a person or organization who
knows the subject and who cares about its quality)
   a.Who is responsible for the site?  Include names of authors and sponsoring
  
ACCURACY (Goal: A source with information that is current, complete, and correct)
   a.Date of material:  Revision date (if applicable): 
   b.Are there grammatical and spelling errors?  Yes   No
How many errors? (Remember: if there are more than three errors you should
consider not using this site) 

REASONABLENESS (Goal: A source that is truthful and unbiased)
   a.Do you suspect any bias? Why or Why not?  
   b.Is the information provided as a public service?  Yes  No  
   c.Is there any advertising in the content of the information?  Yes  No
   d.Does it sound calm, not wild (avoid emotionalism)?  Yes   No

SUPPORT (Goal: A source with verifiable sources of information)
   a.Have you found the information in other places (an indication it is good
information)?  Yes  No
   b. Are the sources listed? Can they be checked? 

The following may also be considered when evaluating websites:
DESIGN:
   a.Does the page take a long time to load?   yes  no
   b.Do the links work?   yes  no
   c.If you go to another page, is there a way to get back to the first page?
  yes  no

FINAL EVALUATION:
   a.Considering the answers to the questions above, should you use this
article in your research?   Yes  No  
   b.Why did you decide to use it? OR Why did you decide not to use it?

   c.What is the purpose of this website? to sell a product   to advance a
