County Contest - March 19 or 20 (or designated date)
All local teams for each division shall compete at the county level with the
other teams from their county to qualify for the state competition on April
10, 2010. The date for the county competition will be March 19 or 20, or
locally determined.
The county competition will be held at sites designated by the county
contact person. Members of the Nebraska Reading Council may be available at
each of the county sites the day of the competition.
Questions for all divisions for each county will be provided by the Nebraska
Reading Council's Classic committee. Questions and procedures will be
identical in all counties. The team from each division with the greatest
number of accumulated team points at the county competition will be eligible
for the state competition. The team from each division with the second
greatest number of accumulated team points shall be designated as the
alternate team. Should the first team be unable to compete on April 10,
2010 at Centennial School in Utica in the state competition, the alternate
team will be the designated team to participate.

County Contest Procedures
1. There will be 5 rounds of 10 questions in each round.
2. Each of ten questions will be read only once with 20 seconds allowed
after each question for the team to write their responses (30 seconds for
Div. I).
Teams should confer QUIETLY so other teams do not hear answers.
3. At the end of each round, three minutes will be allowed for the teams to
ask for questions repeated and/or responses changed.
4. Spelling doesn't have to be correct, just close enough for the scorers to
guess what is meant.
5. Answer sheets will be collected so that the scorers may begin scoring
while the next round begins.
6. The validity of team answers will be at the discretion of the teams until
the top team emerges.
7. The team with the most correct answers at the end of 5 rounds will
advance to the state semifinal rounds. In the event of a tie, additional
rounds of 5 questions each will be administered to the teams until the top
team emerges.
8. No erasures will be allowed. If a team wishes to change an answer, they
must cross out the first answer and write the new answer.
9. Coaches will have 30 seconds maximum between rounds after the answer
sheets are collected to substitute a team member and/or coach their team.
10. Coaches may look at the response sheets at the end of the competition,
but they must be turned back into the judge and may not leave the
competition area.

AGENDA for the 2010 STATE READING CLASSIC
9:30 a.m. Registration
Check in the building lobby for the room number of your division.
Go to the designated area and register each team member by signing on the
sheet provided. On the registration sheet you will find your team's table
number. Each team member, one alternate, and coach are all required to sign
in. A volunteer will be available for assistance at each room.
9:45 a.m. Competition
The semi-final round for Div. I, II, and III division will end at
approximately 10:30.
The competition will consist of 3 rounds of 10 questions each. The two teams
with the top scores will compete in the final round. In the event of a tie
for second place in the semi-finals, tie-breakers of 5 questions each will
be administered until a second place team is selected for the final round. A
team of judges will determine the acceptability of the answers.
11:00 a.m.(approximately)
The final round is an Oral competition, beginning with Division I.
The round will consist of only 15 questions between the top 2 scoring teams
from the semi-finals. Each team member will get a practice buzz with the
buzzers before the round begins. Each team will have only 4 members compete,
any of the four may hit their buzzer anytime while the question is being
read. The team with first cue button to light will have a maximum of 5
seconds to answer. In the event of a wrong answer, the opposing team has a
maximum of 5 seconds to give a response-- however, the question is REREAD IN
ITS ENTIRETY for the second team. A team of judges and scorers shall make
the final determination on the acceptability of the answers. After 7
questions are read, the teams will switch sides for the last half of the
round. If necessary, tie breakers will be done just like in the semi-final
round, with the team getting the most correct out of the 5 questions being
the winner.
Medals and trophies will be awarded to each team in the finals.
