How will the teacher communicate with parents? Daily Assignment Book - Check the book for notes written by the teacher. Mid-Quarter Progress Reports. What is the daily schedule for my fourth grader? The day begins with an opening. Students say the Pledge of Allegiance. Attendance and lunch count is taken. Fourth Graders eat lunch at 12:00, which is followed by noon recess. PE classes will be held on alternate days. Students need to have white-soled, non-marking shoes for PE class. These shoes will remain at school and are in addition to their regular school shoes. Will there be a Spelling List? A Take-Home Spelling List will be given to each student on Monday, or the first day of the school week. In addition, spelling words are listed on this website. You can help your child study for the Spelling Test at home by practicing the words both orally and by writing them in cursive. Spelling words and phonics rules that go with them will be practiced during the week in school. A Spelling Test will be held on Friday, or the last day of the week. What else will be included in Language Arts? Students will read various kinds of literature. Students will work on developing comprehension skills. Students will work on developing their vocabularies. Students will be writing, using the Six Traits Writing model and the Step Up to Writing for developing their writing pieces. Students will be given a reading goal each quarter. Students will be required to fill out a questionaire on books read. What will Fourth Graders learn in Math? Fourth graders will learn basic computation and estimation skills involving whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Students will develop numeration and number sense. Students will learn measurement skills. Students will develop an understanding and apply geometry and spatial concepts. Students will develop skills in data analysis, probability, and statistical concepts. Students will develop their knowledge of algebraic concepts. What will students learn about in Fourth Grade Social Studies? Students will study Nebraska and the regions of the United States. What will Fourth Graders learn about in Science? Students will study Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. Students will be doing labs and write lab reports. Students will participate in activities to develop their problem solving and critical thinking skills. How much homework should I expect my Fourth Grader to have? Students will be given work time during each class session. Work not completed during that time will be homework. Occasionally students may have to work on a special project at home. For example, in Social Studies they may need to interview someone to enhance our classroom learning. Assignment books are used on a daily basis. This is a tool for helping students remember what assignments are due. All work should be completed and handed in on time. Parents can help by going over these assignments with the student and giving praise, reinforcement, and encouragement. It is helpful to provide a quiet time and place for homework. If your child is absent from school, he/she will have two days for each day missed to make up their work. Whenever possible make up work will be sent home with a sibling, or a parent may pick up the student's work. In addition, homework is posted on this website on a daily basis. How are birthdays celebrated in Fourth Grade? Students may bring a treat to share with their classmates if they choose to do so. Due to the new wellness policy, consideration should be made to make the treats healthy. Examples of healthy treats are crackers and cheese, popcorn, fruit drinks or snacks, etc. Treats may also be items such as a book for the classroom library or pencils, erasers, etc. for each student. Students celebrating summer birthdays may choose any day during the school year to celebrate with the class. What should I do if my child needs to take medicine prescribed by a doctor? You must complete a meds form for each prescription. Meds cannot be given without this form. |
