You are the café manager in this online game. It is your goal to
successfully run Prescott’s Café during class Monday through Thursday.
You will also need to design TWO advertisements, one warm weather poster to
help sell your lemonade, and one to promote your hot chocolate. Be creative!
Turn in your journal, posters, and completed spreadsheet at the end of the
week.
1) First, create a spreadsheet to keep track of your business and
progress for the week. Open a new spreadsheet in MS Excel (bright green X
icon in your dock).
2) Go to File --> Page Setup and choose landscape orientation so your
spreadsheet will print out horizontally.
3) Click the gray box located above Row 1 and left of Column A to
highlight your spreadsheet.
4) Go to Format --> Cells --> Border and choose Outline and Inside (this
will give you dark lines around each cell)
5) Click the Number tab --> Currency
6) Type $100.00 in Cell A2. This shows the amount of your starting
funds.
7) Now, starting with Day 1, set up your spreadsheet to show the
following for the days you run the business. Widen your columns as needed so
your titles show completely.
Cell A1: Starting Funds Cell A3: Day 1
Cell B1: Café Cell B2: Rent
Cell C1: Hot Chocolate Cell C2: Bought
Cell D1: Hot Chocolate Cell D2: Sold
Cell E1: Lemonade Cell E2: Bought
Cell F1: Lemonade Cell F2: Sold
Cell G1: Advertising Cell G2: Costs
Cell H1: Total Daily Cell H2: Expenses
Cell I1: Total Daily Cell I2: Income
Cell J1: Overall Cell J2: Loss
Cell K1: Daily Ending Cell K2: Balance
8) Highlight Cells A1 to K2, and go to Edit --> Copy.
9) Click in Cell A5 and choose Edit --> Paste.
10) In Cell A7, type Day 2.
Repeat the above steps for each of the days you play Prescott’s Café. Be
sure to consult the weather forecasts!
At the end of each “day”, use the “Financial Report” to enter the data.
Your “Daily Ending Balance” is the amount left at the end of the day in
the “Retire with $___” box.
To get your Starting Funds for Day 2, type the amount in the “Daily Ending
Balance” cell for Day 1.
