Mr. Scheffler's family includes his wife, Jolene and their two sons, Kaleb - 13 and Jonah - 9. The
Schefflers live in David City. Jolene is self-employed as a daycare provider. Kaleb is in the 7th grade
at David City Public Middle School and Jonah is in the 4th grade at David City Elementary.
Mr. Scheffler has been teaching for 16 years. He has taught at Lincoln Pius X High School, Genoa
High School, St. Wenceslaus Middle School (Omaha) and Rising City High School. Mr. Scheffler's
experience has included teaching in the Language Arts - speech (classroom and competitive), drama
(one-act for competition, plays - children and school, musicals - directing and stage crew, debate,
literature, acting, writing, journalism - yearbook, newspaper, newsletter.
Mr. Scheffler has also organized student travel groups to Florida, Colorado and Washington, D.C.
Mr. Scheffler is currently organizing a tour to Washington, D.C. for the spring of 2007.
When Mr. Scheffler isn't busy teaching, he works with the foreign exchange program - AYUSA -
placing students in host family homes for the central United States. Mr. Scheffler and his wife also
do baking for the Lincoln Haymarket Farmers Market during the summer. The family business is
called "Ain't That The Berries! Bakery and Market. Mr. Scheffler is the baker and Jolene bags, tags
and works with product development. The Schefflers also do catering during the winter. The
Schefflers are involved in their sons' activities which include - baseball, football, Breakers basketball,
basketball, soccer, Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts.
The writing workshop classroom is very different from the typical middle school English classroom. It is
set up as a workshop where student write a lot. The focus of the class is on the individual student and
their writing. Our study includes spelling, vocabulary, writing mechanics and grammar and a variety of
writing styles. The students receive a lot of feedback from their peers and the teacher.
