<div align="left">Friday, May 25th, 2012 All English Classes: For students selecting the 'Facebook' Romeo and Juliet assignment option, there are two possible website choices. They are: www.myfakewall.com www.classtools.net/fb/home/page Be sure to email me the link to your website design and print off a hard copy to ensure any changes you make show up on your final product. Social Studies (9-4 and 9-7): A test on Chapters 5 and 6 will take place on Monday, June 4th. A study guide will be given out early next week. As there were no 'notes' for these chapters, students are asked to use their workbooks and handouts in preparation of this test. Wednesday, May 9th, 2012 All English Classes: The Romeo and Juliet Assignment will be due on May 28th for 9-4 and 9-7, and on May 31st for 9-1. This assignment will have seven possible options. Students are asked to select one. Students may work with a partner (maximum of 2) for this assignment. The "Newfunese" Interpretation is the exception to this rule. Up to 4 students may work together! However, it is important that each student participate equally. </div>
<div align="left"> This assignment can be downloaded from the Assignments and Worksheets link. English 9-4 and 9-7: There will be a unit test on Romeo and Juliet on Thursday, May 17th. This test will occur during Period One for 9-4, and Period Two for 9-7. The test will be made up of the following elements: </div>
<div align="left">1) Multiple Choice (Based on elements and terms from the play such as -- oxymorons, paradoxes,metaphors, similes, character flaws and personalities, dramatic irony, foreshadowing, and overall content. </div>
<div align="left">2) Quotations -- Students will be expected to identify the following elements in the quotes they are given: The Speaker, To Whom the Character is Speaking, Why that Quote is Important to the Play. There has been a study guide passed out for this particular aspect of the test. </div>
<div align="left">3) One long answer question on theme. Possible thematic questions in this play are the themes of: Violence, Time, the Feud, and Love. English 9-1: A test date for this unit will occur on Wednesday, May 23rd ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday, April 2nd, 2012 English 9 -- All Classes -- We have started a unit on William Shakespeare and the play Romeo and Juliet. Leading up to Easter Break, we will be exploring the history of this writer, his plays, society at the time, and the use of "Shakespearean" language and poetic forms (i.e. sonnets, paradox, oxymorons, etc...). We will be starting Romeo and Juliet when we return from Easter break! Social Studies 9 -- All Classes -- We have spent the past few weeks working on Heritage Fair Projects. All students have been provided with FOUR in-class periods in the Learning Resource Center to begin working on this project. It is due for presentation on April 19th. Assignment guidelines and suitable topics can be found on my Worksheet link. Friday, March 23rd, 2012 Below are the final submission guidelines for Grade Nine Research Papers. English 9-4 and 9-7 -- Students have begun working on a research paper and speech unit. Students will be introduced to the research paper, and the importance of using APA citations, a reference page, and citing evidence in their work when writing a persuasive paper. Students who are interested in competing for the opportunity to represent the school on the 14th, we will be having a speak-off on Thursday, March 8th after school at 2:30pm in Room 123. All Grade Nine Teachers will be in attendance and will listen to student presentations, offering helpful critiques along the way. Two students will ultimately be selected to represent the school at this event. As there is a discrepancy between the actual assignment due date and the Lion's Club Speak-Off, those students who wish to be involved will NOT be expected to have their APA citations, reference pages, etc...completed by March 8th. There was an issue with posting that appears to have been resolved. English 9-4 and 9-7: You will be having an Essay Unit test on Thursday, February 23rd (Day 7). Social Studies 9-4 and 9-7 -- We have started a new unit on 'Canada's People' -- Chapter 3 of the Social Studies textbook. Students have been provided with an in-class worksheet to complete each day. As well, you are reminded that you need to bring a CALCULATOR to class to answer population density questions. They will be on your test, so it's best to get comfortable 'number crunching' now!
