May 22nd - May 25thWhat a beautiful long weekend it was! We hope that everyone enjoyed the sunshine! Let's cross our fingers that this lovely weather continues :)
In Language Arts we will soon be starting an Author Study on Kevin Henkes. If you have any children's books at home by this great author, feel free to send them in (remember to put your child's name on the inside cover). We have also been conferencing with the children to assess their reading levels. Practice and hard work certainly pays off as we are seeing great improvements in the students' oral reading! Thank- you for your continued support for your child's learning at home :)
We have now begun our final unit in Math- "Geometry". Please keep an eye on your child's mail baggy for a list of learning goals and suggested activities to try at home. There will be no more agenda sentences for the remainder of the year. Instead, the children will be copying their homework into their agendas. This new routine will help them prepare for grade two. We are still asking that you read with your child every night and record in their reading log.In Social Studies, we will be discussing the importance of volunteers in our community. We have so many wonderful volunteers at our school! Just a reminder that our Volunteer Luncheon will take place in the Learning Resource Centre on Friday at 12:00 - 1:30 pm. We hope to see you there so we can show you just how much you are appreciated at Rennie's River :)In Art, we will continue to add to our scrapbooks. These books will be a nice keepsake to help remember your child's year in grade one :)If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us via a note in your child's mail baggy, email, or by phoning the school. Have a wonderful week!Karen Knight
