Students are still reading through the novel Among the Hidden. They are enjoying it and are aware that when the novel is complete there will be a test, as well as a research project and a character essay.Oct. 3, 2013
Students have written their first test of the year. (My appologies; for some reason my post before the test did not appear.) They will be returned by Monday, Oct. 14. We will now begin our first novel study. The book is Among the Hidden by Margaret Petterson-Haddix. The students generally enjoy this book but you will not see it home. We will read it in class together. If a student misses a class, they can borrow a book to take home and catch up.Wecome students and parents!
We will begin our first couple of classes in Language Arts class this year with a little paragraph writing and then we will start to explore our text book, Literacy 7. We will begin with Unit 1: Step Up. In simplest terms, this unit is about how and when people choose to stand up for what they believe in.
The link to the online student text is now available through the Helpful Links banner, found to the left of the screen. Unfortunately, I have not recieved the passwords for the students for this year yet. When I do, you will.
You will find the Literacy text and some other extra features, including worksheets. Also, you will notice that the selections are available in audio files and also MP3. This means that students can transfer their selections to their digital music players and ipods allowing them to listen on the move, in the car, in waiting rooms, etc.
I know grade seven can be a little daunting. As for the grade seven language arts course, it is engaging, with lots of learning and lots of fun. Also, please check out the link on the left "Grade 7 Parents". It is a quick overview of things we will cover in Language Arts this year. I love teaching this course and I hope your children will love it too.
