May 22-25, 2012
I hope you all had an enjoyable long weekend! Now that we are back, we only have 23 days left before the end of the year! While it is the home stretch, we still have a lot of work to do before finishing the year. We also have a lot of exciting events coming up in the next little while!
In math this week we will be finishing our unit on multiplication and division of decimals and moving on to 2-D Geometry. Some students are still displaying difficulty with multiplication facts. As mentioned last week, while this is used in grade 6, it is not taught. Please continue to practice these with your child nightly as this is an essential foundation in math.
In French, we will be continuing with our unit on wild animals. We will be finishing both our research project and our descriptions of our new animals. Our next unit celebrates Canada! It will be a great one to finish the year with.
We have finished reading our novels in language arts and have done some poetry analysis. I am impressed with your responses and determination during these activities.
We will continue with our unit on Electricity in Science this week. This week we will be introducing circuits and how they function.
This week in socials studies and religion we will be continuing our discussion on stereotype as well as the importance of being knowledgeable of different cultures.
Finally, our grade six students will be starting their provincial assessments on Thursday of this week. There was an informational pamphlet sent home yesterday. Please ensure that you check with your child to see that they have enough school supplies.
Some important dates to note:
· Tuesday May 22nd- Tickets for Spring Concert on sale.
· Thursday May 24th - Provincial Assessments begin.
· Friday May 25th - Volunteer Luncheon
· Wednesday May 30th- Elementary Spring Concert
Have a great week!
