Thank you all who attended our NH History Wax Museum! It was huge success. If you were unable to attend, I posted some pictures of this and the Animal Book Celebration on its own page. The kids did an amazing job and all the students and adults who came through the museum truly learned a lot about the famous people of New Hampshire. I am so proud of all my famous New Hampsherites!
Remember that we will be traveling to UNH for a fun-filled day of learning on Wednesday. Please remember to dress according to the weather... which is unfortunately supposed to be RAIN!! Part of this learning adventure takes place outdoors, so you will want to wear a rain jacket and appropriate footwear. I am very excited for this trip, I know you will love it!
As the year is coming to an end, I want to say thank you to ALL the families of Room 207. Your support has been incredible and working with you as a team to help your child has been a wonderful experience. One last way we are asking fourth grade parents to support us is by volunteering at the 4th grade BBQ. Please look through the packet that went home at the end of last week for important fourth grade dates and information, including a volunteer sign-up sheet.

Our New Hampshire History Wax Museum will be held in our classroom on Wednesday, May 30th between 2:15 and 3:00. If you are able to, please come check out what our class has been working hard on during our biography/NH history unit. Hope to see you there. :)

We will be celebrating our animal stories as a class tomorrow morning (Thurs. 5/17) from 10:40-11:00. The children have done such a wonderful job with their animal books and are very proud of their work. If you'd like to join us for some story sharing and snacks, please come on down to room 207 tomorrow, Thursday, at 10:40 sharp.
Also, if anyone would like to send in a snack to share with the class to help us celebrate, that would be great. :)

Although it was rainy, I hope you had a fun April vacation! I had a chance to visit my dad, which was great. Going home today with your child is a paper copy of the newsletter and a permission slip for our next field trips. On Tuesday, May 15th we will be traveling to Belknap Mill and on June 12th we will be exploring Strawbery Banke. Please return the permission slip and health form as soon as possible. Also, there is form to fill out if you would like to volunteer. I am thrilled to be taking these two field trips to expand our learning beyond the walls of the classroom. Experiencing local things that are relevant to what we are learning about in school stimulates an interest in learning, adds an element of realism, and promotes deeper connection.

I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing, and fun vacation week. I had an awesome week in San Diego. However, I am excited to be back at BES. And we are getting started and continuing lots of fun learning. Please read the March newsletter. It was emailed and I also posted it on the website under Room 207 Newsletters. Also, please check out the photos I posted under Geography Week Photos.
February 22, 2012
Just a reminder that this week is Geography Week. Tomorrow (Wed.) we will be decorating our door in a Thailand theme. Fourth grade classrooms chose a country from Asia and because I've traveled to Thailand I was able to show the students lots of pictures and share information about the Thai culture. Thursday is the Invention Convention and Friday students are encouraged to wear a t-shirt from a place they visited or someone they know has visited. Geography Week is off to a great start!

November 25, 2011
Hello. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and are enjoying the break. Thank you to those of you who are supporting our blogs, including Mrs. Brooks, Mrs. Drysdale, and Mrs. Sans. We have just finished Unit 3 in math and will be moving on to Unit 4 next week. We are also wrapping up our personal narrative pieces and will be moving on to descriptive writing soon. Please remember that we have a field trip on Wednesday, November 30th. Remind your child to bring a cold lunch and dress appropriately for the State House. Thank you to all of you who volunteered to chaperone. If you weren't chosen to come on this trip, I hope you can come on another trip soon.
November 9, 2011
Hi. I just wanted to update you. I hope you all received and read my November newsletter. We just finished writing letters to soldiers for Veteran's Day. We will also be making holiday cards to send to them. This morning we finally set up our blogs. So far we have our first post, a picture, and a poll up! The kids loved doing this and they were very motivated to write. You could have heard a pin drop in that computer lab! :)
I sent out an email regarding the blogs and having access to your child's blog. Please read that email and if you'd like to follow your child's blog, please send me an email with your email address so I can invite you. The students' blogs are private and invite only. Thanks for your support with these. Students really enjoy having their parents follow and comment on their blogs!

Hello. NECAPs are over!! The kids did great. I am excited for parent conferences on Monday and Tuesday. I am looking for a parent, or two, or three to bring in some healthy snacks, cupcakes, or fall decorations for our Fall Harvest Day on Monday, October 31st. Would anyone like to help our classroom out with this? Thanks! :)
October 6, 2011
Thank you so much for coming to Open House! I hope you enjoy seeing your child's classroom in depth and will learn a lot about what we do here in room 207.
Also, thank you to those who helped with the Bake Sale and who donated a canned good for our food drive.
October 4, 2011
Hello! I look forward to Open House on Thursday. I can't wait to meet you all!!
Thank you so much to those who volunteered their time and/or baked goods for our 4th grade bake sale. This is a huge help in the cost reduction of field trips and also supports other 4th grade curriculum enrichment. I have also filled out a class wish list for the Book Fair. If you are able and would like to donate a book for our classroom, the wish list will be in the library during the Book Fair. Thank you!
September 29, 2011
Hi families!! I hope you all received my email newsletter today. If you didn't, please give me your updated email address for my list. It is also attached on our website.
I have talked to the other fourth grade teachers and we haven't gotten many volunteers to stand at the bake sale table for 15 minutes at Open House. If we do not get enough volunteers to work the table we will unfortunately be unable to have the bake sale. Please consider giving 15 minutes of your time to stand at the table. This fundraiser helps us lower the cost of field trips for the year, buy books for our classrooms, etc. Thank you!
September 26, 2011
Hi. I hope you are all doing well and enjoyed your weekend. I am writing to tell you that the Scholastic book orders are due this Thursday, September 29th if anyone is interested in purchasing books and helping our class get free books! This can be done online or in the catalogs that went home. If you are ordering online the class activation code is J3LCB.
I will be sending out an October newsletter on Friday so please be looking for it in your child's home folder.
September 21, 2011
Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I will only be sending home monthly newsletters. I will update our class website to keep you informed. Also, I encourage you to use the Circle Notebooks as a home-school link. Besides the topics your child chooses to write about, ask them about the other topics on the circle to find out what else we've been doing in class. Just a reminder, if you are unable to write in your child's Circle Notebook continuously please let me know and I can respond to them. It doesn't need to be a long response, even if you only have time for a one sentence note, the kids love it! Thank you for all of your support with these.
On another note. I gave each child a Book Projects homework packet today. I have explained this to them and we will also write the dates in our agenda book tomorrow. There will be 3 book projects due throughout the year. Each project is a different type including oral, art, and written. Students need to have me approve their book for the first report before October 4th.
September 15, 2011
Scholastic book orders went home yesterday! If you'd like to make an order it can be done through paper or online. It is super easy to do. Thanks for your support. :)

September 3, 2011:

If you need to update your email address, please email me at karruda@barrington.k12.nh.us. Once I have an email address for everyone I will use email to send out announcements and information to save on paper. If you would like a paper copy instead just let me know.

Room 207 had a great first day of school!!
We shared a few summer mementos, had a whole school assembly, reviewed the cafeteria procedures, played a some team building activities with our heights and birthdays, and learned about our new classroom and each other.
I look forward to another great day tomorrow learning new things and getting to know each other better.
