This will be my second year teaching at Gossler Park. I enjoy working with
students at this age level because they are beginning to form who they are,
and understand that the world is a bigger place than their own neighborhood.
When I was in 5th grade, I attended school in Okinawa, Japan. This was
definitely a unique experience for me. My teacher left such a lasting
impression on me, that I decided to try to find her last year. Thanks to the
internet, I did locate her (still teaching) in Oregon. I hope that I am able
to leave such an impression on my own students. If your child is able to
master all levels of Rocket Math this year, they will come home with a giant
cookie- the idea, of course, came from my 5th grade teacher.
I have 3 children of my own, ages 3-11. I am very open about the fact that
my youngest child has Down Syndrome. This has helped me to become more aware
of challenges that students might face in the classroom, and fuels my desire
to make sure all children are accepted and accomodated accordingly.
If any concerns arise at any time during the year, please let me know right
away via a note or phone call. It is always best to try and clear up things
when they happen instead of letting them get out of control.
I want to see each child achieve their potential. Children should feel safe
in their school environment and make sure their peers feel safe as well. As
this is your child's last year of elementary school, they will learn skills
to prepare them for the hustle and bustle of middle school.
