Will my child have homework every night?

Yes, your child will have math and spelling each night. He/She should be studying the math facts
and reading for at least 10-15 minutes a night. Late work is only accepted if your child has been
absent from school. If you would like, your child's work can be prepared for pickup at the end of the
school day as to allow him/her a 'head start' in completing the day's assignments. This would help
in avoiding the issue of falling behind the rest of the class' academic progress.

How much should my child be reading at home?

Every student should be reading at least 10-15 minutes each evening.
This book MUST be on his/her instructional reading level. If you are unaware
of this level, feel free to contact me, as I will be happy to guide you in
the right direction for helping your child select appropriate books.

Is Gossler Park still collecting 'General Mills Box Tops'?

Should I be helping my child with his/her assignments?

Absolutely, you should assist your child when he/she needs help
completing an assignment. Clarifying directions, proofreading, and reviewing
concepts are all appropriate ways to aid your child. Doing the work 'for'
your child is definitely unacceptable, and you will only be hurting him/her
in the long run. Each lesson I teach is a building block which must be
mastered in order to comprehend future lessons. You might also try studying
with your child before tests. Oftentimes, oral review with a parent helps
children to retain information more successfully. Even just 15 minutes a
night can prove beneficial.

Can I request a conference?

Yes, you may request a parent-teacher conference at any time
throughout the year. As a parent, you have every right to know where you
child stands in regards to his/her academics, social skills, and behavior. I
encourage you to email me so that we may schedule a time to meet.
Communication between the school and the home is vital to a child's overall
success.

What are the 'Wednesday Envelopes'?

The 'Wednesday Envelopes' are white envelopes that go home with each
child at Gossler Park School each and every Wednesday afternoon. Inside
you will find corrected papers, announcements, and/or important forms that
need to be signed and returned. These envelopes MUST be signed each week by
a legal guardian, emptied of all contents, and returned the following morning.

What if there is a change in my child's dismissal routine?

If you wish for your child to be dismissed in an alternate manner one
day (i.e., pick-up, walk, bus, After-School Program) you must write a note
telling me of this change. Without a signed and dated note, your child
will be sent home in his/her usual manner. Your child's safety is my top
priority and I will not deviate from your original dismissal request unless I
receive a note informing me otherwise.
