Greenland Educational Improvement Plan (G.E.I.P.)

Mission Statement

The mission of the Greenland School District is to enable every student to acquire and demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and problem solving abilities needed to become thinking, considerate, open minded, responsible citizens and family members who value learning throughout their lives.

Core Values and Beliefs

1. Parents play an important role in their children’s education.

 

2. Community involvement and support is vital for the future success of our schools.

 

3. A core of skills and knowledge underlies academic success.

 

4. Each student is entitled to an education that fosters the development of the individual’s full potential and is respectful of learning styles and learning rates.

 

5. All members of the school community are entitled to a safe, supportive, and secure environment.

 

6. Students must be prepared with effective communication, critical thinking, and technological skills.

 

7. It is essential to recognize the importance of cooperation as well as competition.

 

8. Students must be able to set goals and priorities, evaluate progress, and assume responsibility for their own actions.

 

9. Respect for self and others, dignity, and trust lay the groundwork for quality learning.

Vision and Goals

Vision Statement 1

Our society is diverse by nature and this is reflected by the differences in abilities and learning styles among students in each classroom. Our school staff must be prepared to challenge each individual and measure growth commensurate with existing strengths and weaknesses.

Goal 1 The Greenland Central School District will pursue training, programs, and initiatives with regard to effective instructional practice and assessment to assure that the academic and instructional needs of each student are met.

Strategies for Goal 1

1. The Technology Committee will develop training to enhance By: 5/2010

technology integration regarding instruction and school operation.

(i.e. website, email, smart board, netbooks, etc.)

2. The Language Arts Committee will continue to evaluate, research,            

Recommend, and implement best practice with regard to school-wide

writing instruction as well as cursive handwriting.                      By: 5/2010

3. Grade 3 teachers, with assistance from the Reading Specialist, will By: 5/2011

implement Wilson Fundations instruction as part of the grade 3

language arts program.

4. Implement and evaluate extended learning opportunities in grades By: 5/2010/Ongoing

K-8, utilizing the expertise and oversight of the Curriculum Integration

and Extended Learning Coordinator

5. Grades K-8 teachers will continue to implement and evaluate By: 5/2010

The Great Body Shop health curriculum.

6. The Teacher Assistance Team (TAT) will develop and By: 5/2010

implement new procedures and strategies to support struggling

students utilizing and Response to Intervention (RTI) Model.

Vision Statement 2

It is essential that our school reflect a polite, caring, healthy, and safe environment.

Goal 2 The Greenland School District will implement policies, procedures, and programs to create and maintain a safe and respectful climate where all school community members are encouraged and supported to reach high standards for growth, achievement, and self-discipline.

Strategies for Goal 2

1. The Aspirations Team will lead the staff in promoting positive Ongoing

communication and school climate while developing a framework

and resources to manage the expectations set out in the

SAU 50 Learning Compact.

Vision Statement 3

Our students must be prepared for a world that is continually evolving toward an information based, technological, globally-linked, rapidly changing society. Students must be able to ask good questions, find information, and demonstrate their knowledge.

Goal 3 The Greenland School District will strive to ensure congruence between stated curriculum (SAU 50, New Hampshire Frameworks), instruction, and assessment. Furthermore, the District will strive to ensure communication at and across grade levels regarding the curriculum and student outcomes.

Strategies for Goal 3

1. Develop expectations and training to utilize resources such as By: 5/2010

Performance Tracker in analyzing Greenland assessment

results and to further align our curriculum and instruction

to monitor student progress.

2. Review the recommendations from the NEASC visiting team, By: 5/2010

and commission and develop appropriate timelines, response,

and plans for follow up.
