Are GCS Athletics and the Recreation Department the same?

The GCS Athletic Department and the Recreation Department are not the same,
but we do work very closely. We share fields and facilities, purchase items
that will be useful for both entities and continuially share information to
give the children of the Town of Greenland the most comprehensive programs
at every age.

What paperwork does my child need to participate?

Upon entering 6th grade, every child who will be participating in a sport at
the Junior High level is required to have a recent physical on file with the
athletic department. At the beginning of each season, each participant will
be required to fill out an Athletic Packet for their activity. This packet
includes a Participation Memorandum, a Student/Parent Athletic Contract and
a Medical Consent Form. These forms are filled out for every activity the
student participates in. These forms are available online.

When does my child sign up?

A month or two before actual practices start, there are sign up sheets
posted in the cafeteria. Signs are hung in the Jr. High wing, and
announcements are made during the morning. Not signing up does not mean
that your child can't participate, but it is very helpful when trying to
dtermine team size and coaching resources that will be needed. It is highly
recommended that when your child sees the sign up sheets or hears about the
signups on the morning announcements, that they do make an effort to sign up
if they are interested in participating.

How do I know if a game/practice is cancelled due to inclement weather

We make every effort NOT to cancel scheduled games. Using our website on a
daily basis will help ensure you know about any changes/cancellations that
occur during the school day. The website is updated daily, and all
cancellation are made by 1:00 p.m. The new Flash Mail system helps the
Athletic Department reach parents quickly with important announcements,
including weather cancellations.

On the back of every team schedule there are directions to all of the

What if my child loses a uniform?

Unfortunately, this does happen. After exhausting all of the places a lost
uniform can be (locker room, lost and found, friends house, under laundry
pile!), replacement costs for uniforms run from $25 (shorts,
baseball/softball pants) to $50 (screen printed jerseys). Please see the
Athletic Director for more information if you have a lost uniform. Report
cards may be held in some instances until a uniform is returned or paid for.
