About the Teacher:

Mrs. Roberts grew up in Scituate, Massachusetts and attended the University of New Hampshire where she received her bachelors in English and her Master of Arts and Teaching in Secondary Education. She lives in Barrington, NH with her husband and her cats.


Reading and Writing Goals for the Year:
S
tudents will develop an appreciation of the power and beauty of the written word, gain strategies for reading comprehension and critical analysis, increase their word power through vocabulary and  spelling study, and read a variety of printed materials including short stories, poetry, novels, plays, non-fiction, and web-based materials.

Students will experiment with many genres of writing including: narrative, persuasive, creative, descriptive, and research. Students will also conference with peers and with the teacher to improve their writing, and participate in weekly grammar and vocabulary study known as a “Caught ‘Ya”.We will work on writing and delivering effective speeches. Lastly, students will maintain a writer's notebook where they have a chance to practice the skills and concepts we are working with.
