Renzulli Learning
Renzulli Learning:
The Renzulli Learning System (RLS), an innovative web-based educational tool that provides engaging and meaningful activities tailored to meet students' individual interests and needs, is being piloted at GCS during September '09 - June '10 as
a tool within the classroom to differentiate instruction.
Teachers Kate Simons and Bette Hirtle (Gr. 3), Laura Deely and Lynn Deremer (Gr. 4), and Sheila Pratt
(Gr. 5), are enthusiastically piloting RLS with their entire classroom(s).
The Classroom Pilot, generously funded and supported by the Fogarty family, includes teachers beginning to use student reports to compare students' learning profiles and to group students by common interests, learning style or expression style. Teachers may incorporate Renzulli enrichment activities into presentations and other whole class activities; create an enrichment station for use in developing student interests, thinking skills, creativity, and project ideas; and begin to assign suitable activities for each student.
Research suggests that students achieve at higher levels when they pursue topics and activities of personal interest and that enrichment can be provided to every student through the use of Renzulli Learning. All of the 36,000+ activities/options in the RLS are based on the Enrichment Triad Model, cited as the most widely used plan for enrichment and talent development in the world.
For Parents:
In Renzulli Learning, parents of students in piloting classrooms also have their own web site to chart their child's progress and view his or her profile. Articles are selected just for parents, as are helpful links to web sites that help parents and are updated regularly. Parents can help their child pursue their special interests by helping them buy or find the books they select as favorites, or helping them participate in on-line creative writing competitions, and supporting them as they pursue independent projects and virtual field trips, as well as all of the other options available in Renzulli Learning. To register, go to
www.RenzulliLearning.com
, click the purple "Parent" button at the bottom of the page, find the "If you're here for the first time" sentence and click on "here", enter your child's username and password, read the RLS agreement and click "Accept", and then click the "Submit" button. The Parent home page contains a wealth of easy-to-use features and parent information. Enjoy exploring and using this powerful and dynamic tool!
