About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
The National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes and celebrates student achievement and growth in all aspects of the high school experience. Students must maintain a minimum of a 3.15 GPA throughout their high school career, serve as a role model and leader inside and outside of the classroom and dedicate themselves to volunteering their time to benefit the community through service projects and required service hours. Eligible students are invited to apply for membership during the spring semester through completion of a formal membership application. Students are then chosen by a five-member Faculty Council and participate in an induction ceremony. .
Mission Label:
Mission
The four standards of the National Honor Society define our members - scholarship, character, service and leadership. Scholarship Scholarship means a commitment to learning. A student is willing to spend hours in reading and study, knowing the lasting benefits of a cultivated mind. We should continue to learn even when formal education has ended, for education ends only with the end of life. Knowledge is the one great element of life which leads to the highest success and it can be acquired only through diligence and effort. Service Service can be described in various ways. In the routine of the day’s work, many opportunities arise to help others. Willingness to work for the benefit of those in need, without monetary compensation or without recognition, is the quality we seek. We are committed to the idea of volunteering our time and abilities to the creation of a better tomorrow. Character Character is the force within each individual which distinguishes that person from others. It is that without which no one can respect oneself, nor hope to attain the respect of others. It is this force which guides one through life and is the daily striving to make the right choice. Character is achieved, not received. Leadership Leadership should exert a wholesome influence on the school. In taking the initiative in class and school activities, the real leader strives to train and aid others. It embodies the will to yield one’s personal interests for the interests of others. A leader has self-confidence and will go forward when others hesitate.
