Nathan Blake

Headstone for original proprietor
Nathan Blake. Blake built the
first house in Upper Ashuelot
(Keene) in 1738. In 1746, during
King George's War, Blake was
captured by an Indian raiding
party and taken to Canada. He
was
later ransomed and returned to
Keene.

Ephraim Dorman

Headstone for original Upper
Ashuelot proprietor Ephraim
Dorman. On the morning of
April 23, 1746, Dorman came
upon an Indian raiding
party while searching for a lost
cow. He raced to the fort on
Main St. and rang the alarm bell
to warn his neighbors.
