Individualized Spelling Program


This year, the children will be using a spelling tool to help them 
become successful spellers.  The spelling program allows the children 
to be accountable for his/her words by giving him/her the opportunity 
to pick words that are just right for them.

Every Monday, all of the students will be given a pretest of the same 
words.  These words come from the Language Arts story we will be 
reading during the week.  If your child already knows how to spell 
any of the words from the pretest, he/she will be given a list 
of challenge words to choose from.  If your child incorrectly 
spelled any of the words from the pretest, they will either be asked 
to learn those words or they will be given words that are just 
right for them.

On Friday, the children will be matched up with a partner that has 
similar words and they will test each other. If a child spells a word 
incorrectly on his/her test they will receive that word again the 
next week.  

At any time the children may receive anywhere between 10 and 20 words 
based on his/her ability.  Please feel free to ask questions or give
