Read and Feed Your Brain

"Read and Feed Your Brain"

This year your child will be challenged to "Read and Feed Your Brain!" Students wil be asked to read for at least 15 minutes at least five days each week. Each week your child will come home with a reading log. After reading for 15 minutes your child will fill in the chart, with your help if needed. Each Monday send the completed sheet back to school. I will trade your child for a new, blank one.

The 15 minutes can be spent in a variety of ways:

  • independent reading
  • reading to someone **MOST   ENCOURAGED**
  • listening to someone read
  • any combination of the above

Likewise, the material being read can come from a variety of sources:

  • picture book
  • chapter book
  • magazine (Sports Illustrated for Kids, Ranger Rick, Highlights, etc...)
  • newspaper
  • reading e-mail with a parent (from Grandma or Aunt Sue)
  • instructions or directions (for a model, recipe, game, project, etc...)
  • menu

Most of all, the reading should be FUN! It is one of my goals to 'turn kids on to reading' so that they may enjoy reading for a variety of purposes throughout their lives.
