Language Arts Homework

Dear Parents and Students,

For the next few weeks, students will have an assigned chapter book to read with response questions to answer. There will be different groups or books, based on each student’s current independent reading level. The books have been purchased mostly by Mrs. Villiard. If a book is lost or damaged, I will let you know what the replacement cost is. Most books are less than $5.00. Some titles may belong to Northwest Title I library, and will also need to be paid for if lost or damaged. Please keep the book in a safe place at home until this assignment is finished.       

Students may go ahead of the daily assignments if they would like to. I will be collecting the packets every Thursday to see how students are doing. Any “redo” work will need to be completed over the weekend.

Here are the general directions for this language arts homework:

1. Read the assigned questions to be answered.

2. Read the assigned chapter or pages.

3. Reread the chapter, or parts of the chapter to help you answer the questions assigned to you. All questions need to be answered in COMPLETE SENTENCES. Vocabulary, charts and lists do not need to be in complete sentences.

4. Reread your answers to be sure they make sense. Make any corrections, check capitalization,  punctuation and spelling. Words found in the book or in the question MUST be spelled correctly. You will be graded on format as well as content.

Date: 11/9/09         16. Write and illustrate a next chapter. Get a piece of lined paper for a rough draft. Skip lines when you write so you will have space to make revisions, or fix mistakes. Write your final copy in your packet. Use lined paper from your writing homework notebook if you need more space.

Date: 11/10/09      17. Continue with homework #16.

Date: 11/12/09       18. Finish writing and illustrating your chapter. Return book with packet.
