Orientation to 1st grade and P.M.S.

Every spring, an Orientation Night is held in order to acquaint parents of
incoming first graders with the registration process. Various staff members
speak about what to expect when children come to first grade, and an
opportunity to ask questions is provided.

Ms. Laroche conducts tours of the elementary school for all kindergarten
students who will be attending Pelham Elementary School in the fall.
Kindergartens from Pelham are scheduled to come and visit as a group, and
children who attend other programs are invited to come on designated days with
their partents. In either case, Ms. Laroche greets the children and escorts
them to some of the 1st grade classrooms to see what they are like. The
children also visit the Music Room, Art Room, Media Center, Nurse's Office,
and Gymnasium. The tours end with a cookie and milk/juice for snack served in
the Student Dining Area.

Mrs. Flaherty will be working with the 5th and 6th grade staff to develop an
orientation program for 5th graders making the transition to middle school in
the spring.
