Visual Arts- Broad Goal: The art program will provide each student with the foundation of developing appropriate knowledge of the elements and principles of design. Readiness Curriculum -Mixing primary colors -Introduction to color,form,shape,line, space,value, and texture -Recognize and name primary and secondary colors -Introduction to lines -Describe textures of various objects 1st Grade Curriculum -Produce two and three-dimensional works -Use elements of design to create art -Use art vocabulary terminology appropriate to first grade level -Use symmetry in art 2nd Grade Curriculum -Recognize and name the primary and secondary colors -Identify and use types of lines and shapes -Identify textures -identify the characteristics of symmetrical shapes 3rd Grade Curriculum -Recognize and name warm and cool colors -Identify types of lines -Identify symmetry and symmetry -Describe textures in art works -Identify and use elements of design -Use art tools,materials, and techniques to create different types of art -Demonstrate knowledge of measuring skills 4th Grade Curriculum -Identify color schemes in art -Demonstrate knowledge and use measuring skills for two/three dimensional art -Demonstrate how works of art can communicate ideas -Critique art works and interpret ways artists use elements of design -Describe knowledge of art tools and techniques 5th Grade Curriculum -Exercise conceptualizing skills -Know that the visual arts have both a history and a specific relationship to various cultures -Create art that describe how people's experiences influence the development of specific art works -Create and identify connections among the visual arts and other subjects -Introduction to oils, shading, and clay pots
