Homework is typically prepared for the whole week and passed out on the
first school day of that week. Please do plan on a place and time nightly
for homework completion. It is also important that assignments make it back
to class daily.
Weekly Assignments usually include:
Monday: A written spelling assignment using this week's words in meaningful
sentences. ex. When a volcano erupts magma flows down the mountain. Another
option is to use as many words as possible in a creative story. Both are
examples of using spelling words in context. Be sure your work is neat and
spelling words are spelled correctly. Practice spelling words nightly.
Tuesday: A math assignment is given. It is important that third graders
have mastered their #facts up to 18. Automatic recall of addition facts is
a wonderful base for learning the multiplication tables.
Wednesday: Reading response journals are sent home to write a paragraph
about the book they have been reading nightly. This is practice writing a
main idea and supporting details. All write ups should be proofread for
capitals and punctuation.
Thursday: Prepare for the spelling test on Friday.
Friday: Friday Folders are brought home. Look over the contents and return
folders to class on Monday.
Every night the students are asked to read for 20 minutes. They may borrow
books from the classroom library to take home and read, use their library
books, or read books they may have at home. Record reading on reading log.
The rating box can be used for page number until the book is completed. Then
a star rating system is used up to four stars for a really enjoyable book.
