Hello! I am thrilled to be your 5th grade teacher this year! One of
the high points of my life was graduating with my Masters in Education from
Rivier College. My family and I worked very hard over the last
few years to accomplish this goal and now that we have it is so exciting to
be working right here in my own town. I enjoy being creative and
adventurous and try to make the classroom one of your favorite
destinations. If I could try to imitate anyone's teaching style it would be
Miss Frizzle from The Magic School Bus. When I began teaching I knew that I
had found my home and after working many long and boring hours in business I
was excited to have a career where every day is so different and fun. I
like to get to know each student individually in order to develop a sense of
community in a diverse classroom. Together anything is possible, but when
working alone the lesson becomes just another task.
Big trips start with an idea, a dream, or a notion. "I'd like to go
there someday." I look at every unit as a trip we will be taking together.
Questions like: "Where shall we stop to reflect?" and "When will we need
more information?" will arise. Even though there may be a lot of ground to
cover in the curriculum, the need for taking time to answer these questions
is critical to making the trip successful.
Most of all, NO trip should be boring!! My job as the class tour guide
will be easy. As long as I make it fun and interesting the students will
want to come along for more than the ride. Their job is just as important.
If they don't listen and participate, they will miss some very important
places.
