Announcements

Hello everyone and happy November. With two months behind us we are doing a
great job in first grade. The children have settled nicely into our "Walk to
Read" block of time every day from 10:15-10:45. Mrs. Andrews and I swap
reading groups so that we can individualize and make our instruction more
effective. If you have any questions about it, jot them down and we can talk
about it during our conference. A conference reminder went home this week. If
something comes up and you can't make it, we'll arrange another time. For
those parents new to our routine, we use the conference time to pass out and
explain the report cards.

In the first week of November, the children learned about Veterans Day. Mrs.
Andrews class joined us to see pictures, medals, and other memorabilia from
veterans. Then, the children wrote a letter of thanks to the veterans at the
New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton. I'm sure the home will respond as they
always have with a very nice letter of appreciation.

We are looking forward to Thanksgiving as we learn our poem of the month
(Indian Children)and a few turkey songs.

We are starting a math unit of geometry. The children will be making patterns
with shapes and learning about repetition of patterns in quilts.

We have been studying magnets and doing experiments with them. It's a fun
unit. The children will be tested before Thanksgiving.

I look forward to seeing you all next week for conferences.
