Class Policies and Procedures

Welcome to science class! The main objective of the science program
here at Pelham Memorial School is to motivate and increase student
interest in science by integrating latest technology and educational
strategies. Throughout this school year students will have the
opportunity to work in cooperative learning groups and participate in
many hands-on activities. In order to have a positive and exciting
science experience the following guidelines must be followed:

1.	Materials: All students need to have a science journal that will be
kept in the classroom at all times. A composition book or a one
subject notebook works best. Students also need a notebook and a
folder/three ring binder to keep handouts and notes organized. The
notebook maybe shared with another subject only if they are separated.
Organization is a key element to success in this course. Students must
also come prepared to class daily with a writing utensil. Blue or
black ink only! All textbooks must be covered and returned in the same
condition received.
2.	Assignments: All assignments are expected to be done as neatly as
possible, free of any drawings or doodling. Papers should be headed
with your name, the date, and class.
3.	Make-Up Work: Students will be responsible for making up
assignments missed because of absences. The student should ask the
teacher when they return for the appropriate make-up work. Make-up
work must be turned in within a reasonable length of time. (A day for
each day of absence).
4.	Tardies: All students must be in their seats quietly and ready to
begin class on time. Students must have a pass if they are late.
5.	Homework: Homework must be turned in the day after it is assigned
(unless told otherwise). Any homework turned in late will receive one
grade lower for each day late. Homework will be posted weekly on the
board and online.
6.	Lab Rules: Do not touch any equipment in the room until you are
told to do so by your teacher. All lab equipment/supplies must be
treated carefully and responsibly. Safety goggles will be provided and
worn at all times during lab. Lab activities must be taken seriously;
this is not a time to play.
7.	Classroom Rules:
-	Follow directions the first time they are given
-	Show respect at all times
-	Raise your hand to be recognized before speaking or to leave your seat
-	No eating, drinking or chewing of any substance
-	Be on time and prepared for class
-	Keep your hands, feet, objects and negative comments to yourself

8.	Consequences: If a student chooses to break a rule, the following
are a list of consequences that may be taken by the teacher depending
on the severity of the behavior:
Verbal warning, Student conference, Lunch or after school detention,
Phone call home, Referral to Assistant Principal.
9.	Rewards: Positive notes/phone calls home, treats, positive
reinforcement

effort grade, and a conduct grade. Academic grading will be calculated
by the following:
