Homework

HOMEWORK:

Monday: Super Spelling Sentences are now a part of Monday night homework.
Spelling and high frequency words are sent home for review on
Mondays. Students will have a spelling pre-test on Mondays and test on
Fridays. I encourage you to review these words daily with your student to
study for the weekly spelling test on Friday. Spelling words will be sent
home beginning the week of October 14th.

Tuesday: Phonics reader- your child will be sent home with a phonics reader
that focuses on the specific phonics/literacy skill we are working on that
week. Have your child read it aloud and discuss the story. Please sign and
return the phonics reader on Wednesday.

Wednesday: Math Worksheet- a math worksheet will be sent home to reinforce
the weekly skill.

Thursday: Book Buddy Bags- on Thursdays, your child will bring home a "book
buddy bag" with a "comfortable to read" book. Your child will be asked to
read specific leveled reader books as part of our guided reading group
assignments and complete a book response. Depending on the leveled book,
Students may have more than 1 day (up to a week) to complete this assignment
if necessary. These books will go home beginning in October.

EXTRAS:

Homework is meant to reinforce the learning skills covered in school and
encourage study skills and responsibility. Homework is not intended to be a
stressful, frustrating experience.

I ask that each night, your child reads for 10 minutes or is read to aloud
for 10 minutes. A reading log will be sent home with book buddy bags on
Thursdays to chart your child’s progress. Supplemental worksheets can be
sent home if requested by parent and/or teacher to reinforce a specific
skill.
